product design and specification

This final section provides in-depth information into the
product design and specifications that have been developed for
Leaderflush Shapland's educational doorset range.
Using our experience in the education sector we have
highlighted common pitfalls that may occur, and have provided
detailed solutions in how best to eradicate them at design
stage, avoiding the need for time consuming and costly remedial
work.
Core Construction of the Door Leaf EnduraCor and Audiodor
These are cost effective engineered performance cores which
are both versatile and stable. They bring considerable benefits
to designers, specifiers and end-users and are ideal for school
environments:
- Increased scope of certification to allow
doors with increased width and height to be specified
- Increased aperture size for more
flexibility in design
- Finger jointed stiles and rails improves
the stability, fire performance and acoustic properties of the
doorset
- Environmentally friendly - all materials
used are either FSC accredited or FSC neutral
- 30RwdB
acoustic rating and 60 minute fire resistance
- "Severe duty" mechanical strength in
accordance with DD171
The inclusion of stiles and rails within the construction is
of particular importance in areas of high usage, such as school
environments, as it provides a solid sub-material for
ironmongery fixings to be applied to. Fixing into solid timber
stiles and rails is far more durable and eliminates the
possibility of the fixings working loose over time.
Hinges
At Leaderflush Shapland we are aware that doorsets are
required to be highly durable within a school environment. To
overcome problems such as hinge fixings coming loose when doors
are forced beyond 90 degrees, we ensure that the correct
combination of durable components is used to create our doorsets
to eliminate these common problems.
All hinges utilised are the correct material and
classification considering the adjusted door weight. All have
radiused corners, are CE marked and self-lubricating, therefore
requiring low maintenance.
Lippings
Within our doorset specifi cations we highly recommend the
application of lippings to all four edges. This protects the
door leaf against potential moisture ingress and adds a degree
of strength and protection to the bottom of the door leaf when
they are inevitably wedged open.
Door Rattle
Incorrect positioning of the strike plate and/or incorrect
location of the stop can cause the door to 'rattle' when in the
closed position. This problem tends to occur when a rebated
frame is utilised, as adjustment of the stop is not possible. As
a result our specifications include a Barum frame with a planted
stop which allows adjustment to overcome the problem of door
rattle and optimises the door's acoustic performance.
Metal Doorsets
Leaderflush Shapland are also able to offer a range of metal
doors and doorsets for external applications.
