Leaderflush Shapland Is BIM Ready

Leaderflush Shapland, the UK's leading performance timber doorset manufacturer is BIM Level 2 ready now. The company has been at the forefront of working with its customers in a collaborative way to deliver a quality product and service. BIM (Building Information Modelling) was a natural progression to further improve collaboration and given the Government's aim for all centrally procured construction projects to be delivered using BIM by 2016.

BIM offers the opportunity to reduce costs and improve delivery of projects by allowing a virtual model to be created before real construction begins. Leaderflush Shapland is able to supply the actual components in a format that can be placed in the virtual building, meeting with BIM level 2 compliance, which is a requirement of the Government's BIM Strategy Paper.

Unlike traditional 2D-CAD software, BIM users are able to design, analyse and manage the project at each stage of the build. The architect creates the initial 3D model of the building but all participants are equally involved, able to add their own components, drawings and data. This allows for collaboration throughout the design process and requires a sharing of knowledge and information, as well as including factors like time and cost. As the project develops and areas of the building change, so does the design, allowing for the changes to be transparent to all the relevant parties.
Leaderflush Shapland is well equipped to develop BIM models specific to individual project requirements, or through providing access to its library of in-house BIM models. A dedicated design and specification team are also on-hand, using their expertise to assist customers with solutions to meet their individual requirements.

Leaderflush Shapland is able to supply the data from within the BIM in a format to suit the customer, including Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) and Construction Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie). The Leaderflush Shapland drawing team work predominantly with Revit software - the industry standard, but can also supply drawings in other formats as required.

Richard Moss, Marketing Manager at Leaderflush Shapland said: "We endeavour to keep ahead of the latest trends in the industry. We are proud to be able to offer our customers the very latest in design technology. BIM will save time and waste on site and will lead to fewer errors, traditionally caused by uncoordinated and inaccurate information. Our customers will have the chance to see how their design looks as the project progresses, meaning they can make changes at an earlier stage and ensure they get the most out of the process as a result."
