| However, the International Standards Organisation (ISO) devised a method of handing which has been adopted by the Guild of Architectural Ironmongery (GAI). To maintain consistency amongst ironmongers when specifying ironmongery only, Leaderflush Shapland will follow this method which is based on the direction of the closing door. This is either clockwise closing, or anti-clockwise closing, as shown in the diagram below. |

| It is sometimes necessary to describe in the ironmongery schedule which face of the door an item of hardware should be fitted to. This can also be done with the ISO handing method. The opening face is designated ‘0’ and the face which closes into the frame is designated ‘1’, refer to diagram below. |
