  HTM 58 recommends 2100mm
height doorsets, regarding overpanels and transoms as
unnecessary in health applications. It also recommends minimum
widths for various applications and states that effective clear
widths should comply with BS 8300:2001. Taking into account door
leaf thickness, hinge throw and (when open at 90o) handles and
other ironmongery, this means a minimum co-ordinating width of
1000mm. However, the table below taken from HTM 58 shows
narrower widths (shown tinted) for some applications which may
be subject to BS 8300/Part M: it is not recommended that these
widths be adopted. Detailed advice is available in the
Leaderflush Shapland "Designing with
Doors and Doorsets" brochure and check the interactive
clear opening width calculator on this
site. In addition, HTM 69 - Protection - points out that clear
opening widths must be sufficient for the widest vehicles and
equipment to pass through with plenty of clearance. Leaderflush
Shapland doorsets are available in sizes and configurations to
suit all healthcare requirements.
