  HTM 58 identifies the following
doorset ratings, based on DD 171. Heavy Duty - frequent and very
frequent use. Used by the general public and by people with
little incentive to exercise care. Frequent passage of heavy
trolleys, beds or other bulky items.
Severe Duty - subject to frequent violent usage, for example
stockroom doors opened by driving trolleys against them. HTM 58
also mentions Light and Medium Duties.
The Appendix to HTM 69 - Protection - extensively lists all
applications in relation to the level of duty/protection for
general surfaces. Here, only 'Street' Circulation and Lift
Lobbies, and 'Main Entrance' Lobbies and Foyers are Severe Duty
rated.
HTM 69 identifies wheeled equipment as the main cause of
damage. It also offers guidance on protecting door edges, with
hardwood lippings (as the Designer and Extended Performance
ranges) easiest to repair, although also recognising that
postformed edges (as the Plasform Range) prevent some damage.
Buffer rails can also be fitted.
Protection is particularly important to fire doors where the
effectiveness of all components must be maintained.Glazing
within doors is also identified as at risk from breakage but
only safety glass is used in all Leaderflush Shapland vision
panels.
HTM 69 reinforces the importance of quality products pointing
out that - 'causes that lead to damage in healthcare buildings -
include reduction in the quality of building materials and
construction standards, often due to inadequately considered
cost-cutting'.
Leaderflush Shapland can supply either Heavy Duty or Severe
Duty rated doorsets to meet the most taxing situations. A wide
range of plates and edge protectors suitable for healthcare
applications is available as shown opposite. Any combination of
these can be supplied factory fitted from Leaderflush Shapland.
